From MiLB.com:
THE WEEK THAT WAS: The Miracle had a bad week, winning just three of seven games. Worse, that rough stretch has all but eliminated Fort Myers from the FSL West second-half race. Winners of the first half, the Miracle are 12 games behind division leader Dunedin with 14 games remaining.
WHO'S HOT, WHO'S NOT: FSL pitchers are having a tough time keeping LF Juan Portes off base lately. The native of Boston has 12 hits in his last 33 at-bats for a .364 average. ... 1B Johnny Woodard is having a rough last few weeks of the season. Woodward has just three hits in his last 26 plate appearances for a .115 average.
PLAYER TO WATCH: RP Matthew Williams has been solid coming out of the Miracle bullpen. The Australian native has been tagged for just two runs over his last 22 2/3 innings, fanning 18 in those 10 appearances.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: SP Spencer Steedley was solid in a 6-1 home win over Lakeland on Aug. 16. The Charlotte, N.C., native recorded his first FSL win by giving up just two hits through six innings while striking out six.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: "We have a development program in Australia," 1B Danny Berg told the Fort Myers News-Press on how the Australian native got hooked on America's pastime. "It's called the Victorian Institute of Sports. They create opportunities for us. Usually, it's at junior colleges. It's tough to get a full scholarship from the other side of the world."
