By Daily News staff It was billed as a matchup between two first-round draft picks. It ended up as a three-game sweep for the Fort Myers Miracle as they defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays, 7-5, Friday night at Knology Park. Jays starter David Purcey, the 16th overall pick in 2004, was shelled by Fort Myers, allowing six runs (three earned) in 1 and 1/3 innings. He entered the game with a 1.80 ERA. Three walks, a hit batter and a dropped ball in the first inning led to three Miracle runs. Miracle starter Glen Perkins, the 22nd overall pick in 2004, pitched three shutout innings. Tristan Crawford got the win by going three innings. The Miracle host the first-place Lakeland Tigers, who are just a half-game ahead of them, tonight. Webposted 04/30/05 |
