By SPECIAL TO THE NEWS-PRESS The Fort Myers Miracle turned four double plays in back of right-hander Nick Blackburn for a 2-1 victory against the Dunedin Blue Jays on Saturday night at Lee County Sports Complex. The Miracle haven't had much offense lately, but didn't need a lot Saturday with Blackburn (2-0) on the mound. Fort Myers got both runs in the bottom of the first inning. Denard Span started the attack with a single and a bunt base hit by Matt Tolbert, aided by a throwing error by Dunedin pitcher Davis Romero (0-2), put runners at second and third. Matt Moses had an RBI groundout, followed by Brock Peterson's RBI single. The first two Dunedin hitters singled in the top of the first. Blackburn got David Smith to ground into a double play, which scored Jayce Tingler with the lone Jays' run. Blackburn pitched six innings with three strikeouts and no walks. Jan Granado pitched two innings of scoreless relief and Jay Sawatski finished with one scoreless inning, earning his first save of the season. Webposted 04/17/05 |
