Clearwater avoids sweep, wins 5-4

Juan Richardson's two-out single scored Terry Jones with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Clearwater Threshers a 5-4 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle in a Class A Florida State League game Tuesday in Clearwater.

The Miracle managed just one hit and three baserunners after the third inning. The Threshers had a four-run sixth, then won it in the ninth when Jones doubled with one out off Miracle pitcher Pete Fisher, Tim Gradoville struck out, and Richardson followed with his single.

The Miracle got all four of its runs in the third. With one out, Felix Molina tripled. Ron Perodin's single scored Molina. Perodin scored when Danny Matienzo singled and the ball got by the outfielder. Garrett Guzman singled home another run. Elvis Corporan added an RBI double.
