Lee County/Miracle Take Best Baseball Field Award for 8th Time

Fort Myers, FL – The grounds crew that maintains the Lee County Sports Complex's stadium baseball field (Hammond Stadium) has won the 2006 "Best Municipality" Award for best ball field maintained by a Florida city or county.

The winners of the 2006 Florida State League Sports Turf Crew Awards were announced last week by League President Chuck Murphy. The awards were initiated in 1990 and selection is made by the Field Managers and Pitching Coaches of each team in the League, and the Florida State League Umpires. The five awards are Best Overall Award, Best Municipality Award and three Florida State League Commendation Certificates.

Lee County has won "Best Municipality" in 1992, 1993, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, and 2006, and the "Best Overall" Award in 2002 and 2003. A 13-member crew from Lee County's Parks & Recreation Department maintains the Sports Complex.

Keith Blasingim, who oversees the Sports Complex for Lee County Parks & Recreations, has been recognized as the Florida State League (Minor League Baseball) Sports Turf Manager of the Year in 2002 and 2003.
