Naples Daily News The Fort Myers Miracle won its eighth straight on Wednesday night, beating Jupiter, 2-1, at Roger Dean Stadium to extend their lead in the Western Division to 1 1/2 games over the Clearwater Threshers. The Miracle carried a 19-inning scoreless streak into the game against the Hammerheads. Miracle starter Kyle Aselton went six scoreless innings allowing four hits while strikingout seven. Aselton hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last three games. The Miracle improved to 31-20 in the second half and a season high 17 games over .500 on the season. In the seventh, Fort Myers’ Brock Peterson hit a two-run homer to left field, his 19th of the season, to give the Miracle a 2-0 lead. The homer puts Peterson one shy of tying the Fort Myers single-season mark of 20 set by Tommy Peterman (1998) and Matthew LeCroy (1999). The scoreless streak came to an end at 26 innings in the eighth. The same two teams play tonight at 7:05 in Jupiter. Webposted on August 17, 2006
