Fort Myers sweeps Jupiter with 3-1 victory

By special to the Fort Myers News Press

The Fort Myers Miracle pulled off a rare five-game sweep of the Jupiter Hammerheads, finishing off the Florida State League series with a 3-1 victory at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter.

The win was the ninth straight for the Miracle. Coupled with the Clearwater Threshers’ loss to the St. Lucie Mets, the win extended Fort Myers’ lead in the FSL Western Division to 2 1/2 games.

The Miracle got all the offense they needed in the fourth inning. Trevor Plouffe led off with an infield single to short and advanced to second on a throwing error.

Plouffe went 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

With one out Brock Peterson singled to center to score Plouffe. With two outs, Luke Hughes singled to left-center, which put runners at first and second. Steve Tolleson and Jeff Christy followed with back-to-back RBI singles.

Miracle starter Anthony Swarzak worked six shutout innings, allowing just two hits while walking two and striking out four to earn his ninth win (9-6).

Chris Schutt earned his seventh save by retiring the side in the ninth.

Fort Myers begins a seven-game homestand tonight with the first of three games against the Lakeland Tigers.
