By Special to the Fort Myers News-Press Clearwater Threshers starter Andrew Carpenter threw the first seven-inning perfect game in 21 years against the Fort Myers Miracle on Monday night. Carpenter went 21 up, 21 down, with seven strikeouts, in a 2-0 win in the second game of a doubleheader at Hammond Stadium. Clearwater won the opener 9-2 behind a 13-hit attack. Carpenter, a second-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2006, was left off the post-season All-Star roster earlier in the day by the Florida State League. Carpenter then took out his frustration on the Miracle with the clean sheet. Carpenter now stands at 16-6 this season — an FSL high in wins — having tossed his third complete game and second shutout of the season Monday. The Miracle now find themselves 5 1/2 games back with six to go. After a FSL-wide off day today, the Miracle will play the final home game of their season Wednesday night against the Sarasota Reds.
