Miracle end trip with win

SARASOTA -- The Fort Myers Miracle finished their 10-game road trip the way they started it, with a win. Unfortunately for them, it was everything that happened in between they would like to erase. The Miracle defeated the Sarasota Red Sox, 7-5, at Ed Smith Stadium on Thursday night and went 3-7 on the 10-game trip.

The Miracle fell behind early as the Red Sox looked to end their six-game skid.

They got an RBI double from Alberto Concepcion in the first to make it 1-0. A solo homer from Chris Durbin in the second, followed by a triple from Iggy Suarez, made it 3-0.

The Miracle, however, have brought the lumber in the second half of the season. Hitting .299 and averaging more than six runs per game during the road trip, they got an unearned run in the third and sent eight men to the plate and tied it in the fifth. Alex Romero doubled in the first run of the inning and one batter later Danny Matienzo tied it with an RBI double of his own.

In the sixth, Romero came calling again. With two on and one out, he ripped a two-run double to right that put the Miracle up, 5-3. Romero finished the night 3 for 4, with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored.

Romero later scored on a wild pitch.

With the score 6-5 in the eighth, Romero got the Miracle an insurance run when he walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, took third on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.

Justin Olson pitched a perfect ninth to nail down his eighth save.

The Miracle got a good start out of Marcus Moseley, who went 5 1/3 innings and allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits, walking two and striking out four.

Erik Lohse helped preserve the win when he came into the came in the sixth with runners at first and third and one out and didn't allow a run to score. He allowed just one hit in his 2 2/3innings of work, while walking one and striking out four.
