Fort Myers Miracle news

By Daily News staff

Nick Blackburn and Levale Speigner combined on a six-hitter and Kaulana Kuhaulua's second-inning groundout scored the game's only run as the Fort Myers Miracle beat Clearwater, 1-0, in a Florida State League game Monday night at Hammond Stadium.

The game took only one hour and 40 minutes. Blackburn, making his first start since joining the team from Class A Quad City last Wednesday, gave up five hits and struck out five in seven innings. Speigner pitched the final two innings for his first save. It was the Miracle's league-leading 10th shutout.

Clearwater starter Lee Gwaltney went the distance, giving up five hits in eight innings.

Fort Myers pushed across the game's only run in the second. Garrett Guzman led off with a single. After Jose Morales walked, Brett Tamburrino sacrificed the runners over. Guzman scored on Kuhaulua's groundout.
