Sarasota Red Sox starter Luis Mendoza pitched seven shutout innings Friday night in a 5-1 Florida State League victory against the Fort Myers Miracle at the Lee County Sports Complex.

It was Fort Myers' second loss in a row.

Mendoza allowed just two hits while walking three and striking out two. He allowed just one runner to get as far as second base.

With the Red Sox leading 1-0 in the third, Stefan Bailie doubled home Hanley Ramirez with two outs and Matt Murton followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0.

In the fourth, Jim Bailey hit a two-run homer, his sixth of the season, making it 5-0.

The Miracle avoided their 12th shutout in the ninth when Trent Oeltjen reached on an error, stole second and scored on Doug Deeds' double.

Fort Myers starter Matt Yeatman took the loss. He went seven innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits while walking two and striking out five.

The teams meet again at 7:05 tonight at the Lee County Sports Complex.

Fort Myers' starting pitcher tonight will be left-hander Jeff Randazzo (3-9, 5.20 ERA), while Sarasota will start left-hander Jon Lester (4-4, 3.88).
