Romero drives in three runs during 7-3 victorySpecial to The News-PressDUNEDIN -- The last time the Fort Myers Miracle and Dunedin Blue Jays played, the Jays were going for a Florida State League division title. Not much has changed in the second half of the season, as the Blue Jays once again lead the Western Division. But that did not bother the Miracle as Alex Romero went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, and Doug Deeds extended his hitting streak to six games to help Fort Myers defeat Dunedin 7-3 on Monday night at Knology Park. The Miracle pounded out 13 hits and opened the scoring in the first. Romero led off the game with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a two-out single from Deeds. Fort Myers made it 2-0 in the second on a two-out single by Romero, who also added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to make it 3-0. The Miracle tacked on two more runs in the fifth when they loaded the bases and Jose Morales delivered a two-run single to make it 5-0. Miracle starter Marcus Moseley cruised through the first four innings. But in the fifth, he walked the first four batters and was pulled from the game. A sacrifice fly and an RBI ground out in the inning got the Blue Jays to within 5-3. The Miracle added two insurance runs in the eighth on an RBI single by Romero and an RBI fielder’s choice by Perodin. The Miracle bullpen was solid over the final five innings, allowing just three hits, walking two and striking out five. Deeds finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. The Miracle will send right-hander Manny Tejada (3-3, 4.30 ERA) to the hill against Blue Jays righty Shaun Marcum (1-0, 3.27 ERA) at noon today.
