Special to The News-Press The Fort Myers Miracle had an opportunity to pull to within a game of .500 in the Florida State League's second half, but the St. Lucie Mets brought out the heavy lumber and pounded the Miracle 9-5 on Friday night at the Lee County Sports Complex. The Mets used three doubles, two triples and two homers, and pounded out 14 hits en route to the victory. Miracle starter John Thomas, who gave up a homer in his last start, allowed two Friday night. Alhaji Turay hit a solo blast in the fourth inning and Lastings Milledge hit a three-run shot that put the Mets up for good in the fourth. Brett Harper had a big night for the Mets, going 3-for-5, with two doubles, a triple and three RBI. The Miracle took their only lead in the third. With the score tied at 1, Alex Romero doubled. Ron Perodin's grounder went through the legs of second baseman Robert McIntyre, allowing Romero to score. Jose Morales' RBI single scored Perodin. The Sarasota Red Sox will visit the Lee County Sports Complex for a special 5:05 p.m. game today.
