By Daily News staff The Fort Myers Miracle were shut out for the 10th time this season, falling to the Palm Beach Cardinals, 7-0, on Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium. The Miracle managed just seven hits, five of them singles, and never had a runner reach third. Kyle Phillips doubled in the fourth and sixth for the Miracle, while Brock Peterson singled to extend his hit streak to 10 games. Cardinals starter Josh Axelson defeated the Miracle by going seven shutout innings, allowing four hits while walking one and striking out six. It was Axelson's his fourth win of the season. Miracle starter Scott Tyler lasted just three innings and couldn't find the plate in the second. With one on and two out in the he walked four straight batters, forcing in two runs. In the third he gave up a solo homer to Brian Martin, his second of the season and the 14th long ball allowed by Tyler this season. Tyler finished the evening giving up three runs in three innings while walking four. The same two teams meet tonight at Hammond Stadium. The Miracle send LHP Justin Jones (2-1, 4.91) to the hill against Cardinals LHP Eric Haberer (4-3, 2.88). Webposted July 14, 2005 |
