By Daily News staff When the Fort Myers Miracle were good Tuesday night, they were very good. When they were bad, it was a much different story. The Miracle split a doubleheader at Hammond Stadium against the Vero Beach Dodgers. After winning the first game, 5-2, the Miracle were crushed 15-0 in the second. The Miracle (15-15, 52-42) scored all five of their runs in the second inning of their first game. The scoring was paced by Matt Tolbert's two-run double to center. Fort Myers pitcher Justin Jones picked up a complete-game win, despite giving up 12 hits over seven innings. He struck out nine and walked one. The Dodgers' bats were hot (16 hits) in the second game as well, but it transferred into a ton of runs. Vero Beach (19-12, 59-38) blew the game wide open in the fifth with nine runs. The Miracle stranded eight. Webposted July 27, 2005 |
