Nineteen-year-old earns victory for Fort Myers

Jay Rainville, a 19-year-old, allowed two runs in six-plus innings and the Fort Myers Miracle hung on to beat the Daytona Cubs, 4-3, on Friday night at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on Brock Peterson's three-run homer. Fort Myers added its final run in the second on Angelo Fermin's RBI single.

Jannio Gutierrez allowed a solo homer in the ninth to bring Daytona within a run, then walked two straight batters before ending the game.

The same two teams meet tonight at 7:05.

TAYLOR CALLED UP

Fort Myers shortstop J.R. Taylor was called up to Class AA on Friday. Taylor was hitting .256 with 23 RBI in 73 games. He was replaced on the roster by Luke Hughes, who was hitting .257 with seven homers and 42 RBI in 72 games at Class A Beloit. Hughes is from Australia.
