Fort Myers held to just two hits in FSL gameBy SPECIAL TO THE NEWS-PRESS Erold Andrus went 5-for-5 on Friday night, and the Tampa Yankees' left fielder out hit the Fort Myers Miracle all by himself. Tampa took a 4-0, Florida State League win at the Lee County Sports Complex. The Miracle managed only four hits as a team. Andrus came into Friday's game hitting .234, but his big night raised his batting average by 14 points. Coming up with bases loaded in the first, Andrus' two-run single gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead against starter Scott Tyler. Tyler lasted just 4 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits, three walks and a hit baseman. He struck out four. Tommy Rojas' RBI single in the fifth ended Tyler's night. Tampa starter Brett Smith worked five innings, allowing three hits while walking one and striking out three. Josh Smith and T.J. Beam pitched four innings to preserve the shutout. The Miracle will open a home series with the Sarasota Reds at 7:05 tonight. Webposted July 2, 2005 |
