SARASOTA — The Fort Myers Miracle failed to deliver in the clutch Tuesday at Ed Smith Stadium, losing their Florida State League game to the Sarasota Reds 11-3.

The Miracle had five innings with two or more hits and managed to score in just two of them, including getting nothing in the seventh, when they began the inning with four consecutive singles. Matt Moses was thrown out trying to score following the third single and with the bases loaded and one out, Kyle Geiger struck out and Scott Whitrock flew out.

The Miracle pounded out 14 hits, only one of them — a Whitrock double — for extra bases, and stranded 12 runners.

Miracle catcher Kyle Phillips went 3-for-5, with an RBI, and Trent Oeltjen was also 3-for-5, with a run scored.

The Miracle will play at the St. Lucie Mets at 7 p.m. today. Fort Myers will start righty Scott Tyler (5-4, 3.84 ERA).
