By SPECIAL TO THE NEWS-PRESS Adam Harben allowed just five hits en route to the complete-game victory, and Ron Perodin went 4-for-5, with a run scored and two stolen bases, as the Fort Myers Miracle blanked the Brevard County Manatees 2-0 in a Florida State League game Sunday in Viera. Harben, who tossed 7 1/3 innings of no-hit ball against the Manatees on May 29 at Hammond Stadium, allowed only one walk and struck out six. Harben's gem was just the the second complete-game shutout over nine innings tossed by a Miracle pitcher this season. Steve Sollman's one-out single in the third inning was the Manatees' lone hit against Harben until the eighth, when he surrendered a bunt single to Wandel Campana and a single to C.J. Medlin. The Miracle scored their first run in the third when Angelo Fermin came in on a wild pitch. They added an insurance run in the sixth when Perodin scored on Trent Oeltjen's single. Fort Myers' Brock Peterson collected a hit to extend his hitting streak to 13 games, tying for the team's season high with Denard Span. The Manatees will play host to the Miracle at 7 tonight. Right-hander Jay Rainville is scheduled to make his first start for the Miracle since being called up from Beloit. Webposted July 18, 2005 |
