By SPECIAL TO THE NEWS-PRESS SARASOTA — The Fort Myers Miracle got another solid outing by starter Justin Jones and their bullpen in a 2-0 victory over the Sarasota Reds on Wednesday night at Ed Smith Stadium. Jones hurled 7 1/3 shutout innings, allowing three hits while walking three and striking out five in picking up his third victory of the season. Jones left in the eighth inning after giving up a one out single to Hector Tiburcio and walking Javon Moran. In the ninth, after the leadoff man reached on an error, Julio DePaula retired the next three batters, the last two on strikeouts, to earn his third save of the season. Scott Whitrock finished the night 2-for-4 with two doubles. Brock Peterson extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single to left in the fourth inning. The teams meet at 7:05 p.m. tonight at Hammond Stadium The Miracle send right-hander Tristan Crawford (4-2, 3.42) to the hill against Reds righty Jim Paduch (2-6, 4.29). Webposted July 21, 2005 |
