By SPECIAL TO THE NEWS-PRESS SARASOTA — Fort Myers Miracle manager Riccardo Ingram was just following the rule book when he discovered the Sarasota Reds were batting out of order in the second inning. Unfortunately, it backfired as the Miracle lost 6-2 to the Reds on Friday night at Ed Smith Stadium. In the second inning, Ben Himes flew out to left field for the first out of the inning. Ingram then informed home plate umpire Tyler Funneman that Himes wasn't on the lineup card. That mistake by Reds manager Edgar Caceres forced him to make some changes in the next inning, one of which was to replace Himes with .186 hitting Jeff Urgellles. All Urgelles did was go 3-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. In the fourth inning, Jason Vavao led off with a triple, Urgelles knocked him home with a single to right. Urgelles scored later in the inning on a single by Hector Tiburcio. The Reds made it 4-0 in the fifth when Joey Votto led off with an infield single and advanced to second on Miracle shortstop Angelo Fermin's throwing error. One out later Urgelles came calling again with an RBI double to left-center. He scored when the next hitter, Luis Bolivar, singled to right-center. The Miracle got on the board in the sixth when Matt Tolbert walked with one out and scored on Trent Oeltjen's RBI double. Oeltjen finished the night 3-4 with two doubles and an RBI. The Miracle drew to within 4-2 when Mark Zamojc hit his first homer with the Miracle, a solo shot over the right field wall. The Reds answered right back in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by Urgelles and an RBI single by Mark Schramek. When the night was done the Reds had pounded out 17 hits, the most given up by Fort Myers this season. Webposted July 23, 2005 |
