Fort Myers Miracle News

Special to the Cape Coral Daily Breeze

After two days of delays brought on by shower and thunderstorms, the Fort Myers Miracle and Tampa Yankees finally were able to play on Saturday night.

The Yankees scored three unearned runs in the opening game for a 4-1 win, but the Miracle got a three-run blast from Johnny Woodard in the 4-2 nightcap victory.

Tampa batted around in the second inning of the opening game, jumping out to a three-run lead.

Brian Dinkelman led off with a walk in the Miracle sixth and Steve Tolleson picked up an RBI single to center moments later to get the Miracle within two at 3-1.

The Yankees added an insurance run in the seventh.

The Miracle jumped on the board first in the nightcap when Erik Lis came through with a two-out single to center for an early 1-0 lead.

Jason Giambi, on a rehab assignment, played in both games as a designated hitter for Tampa. He had an RBI double in the second game.

With the scored tied 1-1, Woodard delivered a three-run shot in the sixth. It was his fifth blast of the season, but first at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle took three of the four games against the Yankees, winning 4-2 on Thursday and Friday.

The Miracle resume the homestand on Monday against the Dunedin Blue Jays. The game starts at 7:05 p.m.
