By Special to the Fort Myers News-Press CLEARWATER — The Clearwater Threshers’ pitchers carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning Saturday night against the Fort Myers Miracle. But Luis Ugueto’s one-out double off the wall in right field in the Miracle eighth inning put an end to that. The Threshers did go on to beat Fort Myers 3-1 at Bright House Networks Field. Starter Josh Outman was superb for the Threshers in the Florida State League game, tossing six innings, allowing nothing but a couple of walks and striking out six. Outman moved to 9-3 overall, including 4-0 against the Miracle this season, allowing just one run in 23.2 innings of work. Clearwater tallied two runs in the third and added and insurance run in the seventh. The lone Miracle score came in the ninth, a three-hit inning. Caleb Moore led off with a single to center, and moved to second on Greg Golson’s fielding error during the same play. Juan Portes brought in Moore with his single to center, extending his hitting streak to nine consecutive games. A matinee awaits the Miracle and Threshers in the middle game of the series beginning at 1 p.m. today. The Miracle will send right-hander Jeff Manship (1-1, 2.70 ERA) to the mound against Threshers’ lefty Luis Villarreal (0-1, 6.00 ERA).
