By Daily News staff Poor weather continued to plague the Fort Myers Miracle on Saturday, though they were able to beat the Sarasota Reds, 1-0, at Hammond Stadium in a rain-shortened doubleheader opener. Game two was washed out. The first game was halted in the bottom of the sixth inning — a game becomes official after five innings. The second game will not be made up because it's the last time the two teams play in the first half of the Florida State League. It is the fourth game the Miracle have had canceled in the first half of the season, meaning they will play only 66 of 70 games. Errol Simonitsch went the distance in the first game. He allowed three hits while striking out seven. Brock Peterson accounted for Fort Myers' lone run, scoring on Denard Span's fielder's choice. The Miracle had two hits in the inning, their only two hits in the game. The Miracle host the Dunedin Blue Jays today, the start of a three-game series. Webposted June 5, 2005 |
