By Daily News staff The Fort Myers Miracle finally beat the Lakeland Tigers, winning 5-4 in the penultimate game of the first half on Monday night at Hammond Stadium. The Miracle were 1-8 against the Western Division champion Tigers going into the game. The Miracle got another quality start, this time from Scott Tyler. He threw seven innings, allowing two runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out nine to pick up his fifth victory of the season. The Miracle broke a 2-2 tie with a sacrifice fly from Trent Oeltjen in the sixth. The Miracle added two insurance runs in the seventh when Matt Moses singled home Denard Span to make it 4-2, and Brock Peterson walked with the bases loaded to give the Miracle a 5-2 lead. The same two teams will meet tonight in the final game of the first half. Webposted June 21, 2005 |
