By SPECIAL TO THE NEWS-PRESS The Fort Myers Miracle pitching staff turned in another gem in a 3-1 Florida State League victory over the Tampa Yankees on Wednesday night at the Lee County Sports Complex. Adam Harben, who appeared to be battling an injury, lasted five innings of shutout baseball allowing just two hits while walking two and striking out three. Harben got credit for his sixth win. Jan Granado pitched two perfect innings. Peter Tautor tossed the eighth, getting himself into a bases-loaded, one-out jam. Tautor walked two and gave up an infield single, but limited the damage to a sacrifice fly off the bat of Justin Christian. Jannio Gutierrez pitched a perfect ninth to earn his third save of the season. The four pitchers combined to allow three hits, all singles, and two of them infield hits. The offense got all its runs in the second inning off former big-leaguer Calvin Maduro, who hadn't pitched in a game since 2003. Trent Oeltjen was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a Brock Peterson double. Ron Perodin walked and Matt Tolbert followed with a single that scored Peterson and sent Perodin to second. Matt Moses' double scored Perodin. Webposted June 30, 2005 |
