Odds and ends on Southwest Florida high school graduates in minor-league baseball.

* North Fort Myers High School graduate Jim Miller pitched two shutout, hitless innings Wednesday for the Bowie (Md.) Baysox in a 4-0 Eastern League victory over the Harrisburg Senators. Miller lowered his ERA to 2.78. He leads the Double-A league with nine holds.

The Baysox are affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles.

* Naples High graduate Carmen Cali is back in the minors. The Minnesota Twins sent Cali to the Rochester (N.Y.) Red Wings of the Triple-A International League on Thursday. He was sent down when the Twins activated pitcher Dennys Reyes from the disabled list.

Cali appeared in seven games for the Twins and was 0-0, with a 0.00 ERA in 5 1/3 innings.

* Naples High grad Jeff Smith, the manager of the Beloit (Wis.) Snappers of the Class A Midwest League, is headed to the playoffs. The Snappers secured a playoff berth this week. The Snappers improved to 42-24 on Wednesday after a 7-2 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernals.

The Snappers are affiliated with the Minnesota Twins.

* Charlotte High grad Jeff Corsaletti, a center fielder for the Portland (Maine) Sea Dogs of the Double-A Eastern League, was 2-for-5 in a 7-4 victory over the Erie SeaWolves on Thursday. He raised his batting average to .288.

He's ninth in the league in on-base percentage, at .397. He's also sixth in walks with 35. The Sea Dogs are affiliated with the Boston Red Sox.

* Fort Myers High grad Brandan Katin, a slugger with the Huntsville (Ala.) Stars of the Double-A Southern League. continues to rank among the league leaders in power categories. He's tied for eighth in the league with 10 homers. Katin is tied for fourth in RBI with 47.

The Stars are affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers.

* Fort Myers resident Dan Smith, who started off 2-0 with the Richmond (Va.) Braves of the Triple-A International League, has lost his past two starts. Smith allowed four earned runs, four walks and six hits in five innings in a 4-2 loss to the Pawtucket Red Sox on Thursday. Smith's ERA is 5.06.

The game was played in Pawtucket in front of a crowd of 9,091. The game-time temperature was 58.
