By Daily News staff The Fort Myers Miracle, trying to inch closer to first place in the Florida State League's Western Division, lost to the Daytona Cubs, 7-6, Sunday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The Miracle, who trailed all night, took a 6-4 lead in the eighth inning thanks to Brock Peterson's two-run double, but Daytona answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Miracle had the tying run on base in the ninth, but Ron Perodin was thrown out trying to steal second to end the game. Fort Myers missed a chance to pick up a game on first-place Lakeland, which lost earlier in the day. The Miracle, four games back, have not gained ground on the Tigers since beating them April 30. Daytona hosts Fort Myers again tonight at 7:05. Webposted May 16, 2005 |
