By SPECIAL TO THE NEWS-PRESS PALM BEACH — The Fort Myers Miracle, behind a dominating pitching performance by Scott Tyler, blanked the Palm Beach Cardinals 4-0 on Friday night. Tyler, using mostly his fastball, hurled six shutout innings, allowing just two hits while walking two and striking out six, to earn his second victory of the season. The Miracle gave Tyler all the runs he would need in the fifth inning. Scott Whitrock began the inning with a single to left. Omar Burgos doubled down the left-field line, sending Whitrock to third. Ron Perodin then hit a grounder to first, but John Santor had trouble getting the ball out of his glove and his throw home was too late to get Whitrock. Trent Oeltjen then doubled home Burgos and JR Taylor's sacrifice fly scored the third run of the inning. The Miracle will meet the Cardinals in game two of the four-game series at Roger Dean Stadium at 6:05 tonight. The Miracle will start right-hander Adam Harben (2-2, 2.59 ERA) against Cardinals righty Chris Lambert (4-0, 2.33 ERA). Webposted 05/07/05 |
