MEDIA: ODDS & Ends: (06/16/03) From the Star Tribune: The Twins officially promoted catcher Joe Mauer and pitchers Jim Abbott and J.D. Durbin from Class A to Class AA on Sunday, following the Class A All-Star game on Saturday. The three flew to Detroit with farm director Jim Rantz, before they took connections to New Britain, Conn. Rantz flew coach. The players flew first class. "Jim got a kick out of that," General Manager Terry Ryan said. (06/09/03) Fort Myers' righthander Jim Abbott was named Twins minor league player of the week. He went 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA in two starts and is 5-2 with a 1.55 ERA for the season.
